Alice in Wonderland Card Suitors

My good friend is having an “Alice in Wonderland” theme for her bridal shower, so I quickly set out to find some decor ideas. I came across this Sweet Suitors project and just fell in love! They don’t seem too difficult to make either. I followed most of the same steps, but changed it up a bit as well.

What you’ll need:

  • Cricut Machine (optional)
  • Cricut Sweethearts Cartridge (or cartridge with hearts) or Heart Punches (2.5″, 1.25″, 1″) (optional)
  • Heart Templates (optional if you do not have a Cricut)
  • Scissors
  • Red and pink paper scrapbook paper
  • Black and red pens/markers
  • Glue dots or Tape
  • Red and White pipe cleaners
  • Playing cards, in the suit of hearts

With your Cricut (or punch), cut out hearts in 2.5″ and 1.25″ on red cardstock. You will need one of each size for each suitor you create. Also cut out 1″ hearts on pink cardstock. You will need one pink heart for each suitor. These are for the faces.

Take the 2.5″ red heart and fold along the top. These are used for the suitors’ shoulders.

You can also make these for cards in the suit of spades, which basically look similar to upside down hearts.

For the faces, adhere the pink hearts onto the red hearts (see photo above). With a black pen, draw a heart-shape nose and mouth onto the pink heart. Then color in with a red pen. Put the face aside.

Now take your biggest heart and fold the top part over to create the shoulders. Take a red pipecleaner and create arms for your suitor. Put this under the big heart (shoulders) and then glue this to the card. Now adhere the face onto the shoulders.

Now for the feet. Cut out two rectangles and fold them in half. Cut a small slit on top of the fold. Now you drop your suitor into the slots of the feet.

As a bonus, you can create a heart staff for your suitors. Just use a white pipecleaner and glue a heart on top. Wrap this around your suitor’s hand and now you’re ready to paint the white roses red!

These make great decorations and name tags for your next Alice in Wonderland themed party!
